Can You Believe It?
Sri Lanka to Maldives - Day 6
Well, we’ve just 50 miles to go on our 750 mile passage to The Maldives, but if feels like we’ve arrived already.
The wind has died away completely, the sea is like glass, and both last night’s moon-rise, and this morning’s sunrise, were nothing short of spectacular.
It’s been an eventful passage, with another fishing net around the rudder (necessitating me to go in the water this time, while the trawler it was connected to looked on helplessly), the spinnaker halyard getting stuck at the top of the mast (with spinnaker up, and light fading quickly while the wind was getting stronger by the minute), a mayday call from another yacht which we responded to and were heading their way before they were assisted by a merchant ship, and not one but TWO autopilot failures (yup the backup autopilot spat the dummy when it was called into service, although we’ve been nurse-maiding it along).
But none of that matters now. We’re in the bloody Maldives!!
