Day 30 : Ascension to Azores

Saturday, April 16th 2022

I just came up on watch to see the lights of Faial Island, Azores, laid out in front of me.

Dawn is in one hour, at which point the majestic volcano of Pico will be revealed, and we’ll be arriving at Horta Marina one hour after that.

Making landfall is exciting at any time, but after more than a month at sea, it’s a truly special moment.

Will post later today with a passage summary and our plans for the Azores and onwiards. But in the meantime, I’m off to watch the sun rise over a volcano!
